Lauren Conrad, Heidi Montag, Audrina Patridge, and Whitney Port made some questionable fashion choices on The Hills, and we love them for it. Looking back at some of the show's buzziest style moments is one of my favorite pastimes. It's bizarre to think about a period when fur vests and bondage dresses weren't just around, but the norm.
It turns out, though, that not everyone from that era loved the fashion as it was happening. A TikTok-er with the handle @tayloraustinjacks spotted one background extra in an old episode of The Hills throw some nonverbal shade at Conrad.
In the episode in question, Conrad and her friend Lo Bosworth are walking into a club for Stephanie Pratt's birthday. Look at the bottom right corner of the screen and you'll see a woman give Conrad (and maybe Bosworth) a disapproving look. It's iconic, and the woman who gave the glare deserves 50,000 retroactive Emmys.
"She is looking at LC like, 'What the fuck are you wearing?!'" @tayloraustinjacks says in the video, cracking up. To play devil's advocate, it is possible the woman wasn't looking at Conrad, but...it seems pretty obvious. She swiftly destroys Lauren and Lo with her eyes, then goes back to enjoying her night. A queen!

Some of the Hills women have gone on the record denouncing their early-aughts style. "My fashion choices on The Hills were so regrettable," Port told Glamour in June 2019. "The amount of times that I wore inappropriate tank top dresses to a Teen Vogue meeting or a top with no bra—such insane things that I thought were appropriate that I wish I could take back."
Conrad, meanwhile, has turned her signature style into a full-on fashion empire, with lines like Paper Crown and LC Lauren Conrad at Kohl's.
